How to make a Zine

Here’s the Zine I made at the @ladyfestheidelberg 🌈

I made this because I spontaneously started a little zine workshop at my booth and tried to explain how to fold and cut this a few times. And then I thought, why not make a zine with instructions and ideas while everyone else is working on theirs. It’s not as thought through or has the fine illustrations I usually do, but it’s cute and practical and I like that it was made spontaneously at a Lady*fest 💕 it has ideas, tips and encouragement for zine making and if you unfold it, instructions for a minizine like mine on the back 📰

So if you want to make a zine, you take one piece of paper and fold it into 8 equal parts like this →
That’s your original. You can draw, write, glue… on it whatever you want, just keep in mind if you want to copy it to not use materials that make that impossible. Then, you go ahead and copy it.
Take the copy and fold it like the original. Now, you take a pair of scissors and cut in the middle like this →

On folding it after that so it becomes a little booklet I’d advice to watch a video because it’s harder to explain without showing it. Basically, you fold the paper in the middle along the cut, so you got the longer two sides together. Then, you push the edge in the middle out on both sides so the paper forms rectangular hole in the middle, where the cut is. You then push the two sides that are still folded together in, so it forms a cross shape. These are your pages. On one side, there should be your cover and back, that’s the part you need to fold around all the other pages, adjust, and you’re done ✊

If you want to make a zine but are not sure what to write about, if your skills are enough… don’t worry! Zines are unprofessional, diy, and made to reflect the experiences and thoughts of people. So there is no “not enough”. Go for it 💕

Ps: if you want one of my zines, message me 💌
